How to be a Good Mid Laner League of Legends

Share

Mid-lane is one of the hardest League of Legends roles. To excel at mid-lane, you will need to be good at farming, trading, roaming, tracking enemy champions, and more.

To make your job easier, today we are gonna cover some of these concepts and explain how to become a good mid-laner!

Mid Lane Laning

Laning well is the most crucial skill when playing mid-lane. One of the first things you will want to focus on when it comes to laning in the mid-lane is farming. Without proper farming, you will always fall short of your items, and this will make you much weaker over the long course of the game. Therefore, it’s important to always practice the skill of last hitting the minions.

After farming, the next crucial skill we need to focus on is trading. Trading pretty much refers to any fighting interaction with our opponent. In these interactions, our goal should always be to come on top. Meaning we want to deal as much damage as possible while taking the least amount of damage and using the least amount of resources.

Trading and farming are quite easy to learn on a basic level, but mastering these skills takes quite a long time. To speed up your journey, I would recommend playing a limited pool of champions (1-3 max), this way you will practice the same patterns more frequently, enabling you to remember them faster.

Roaming

As a mid laner, Roaming is one of the skills that will benefit you greatly. Roaming refers to leaving the lane in order to help your other allies on their own lanes. As mid, your most common roams should be on the bot lane. These roams will often net you a couple of kills, and enable you to carry the game.

Now to start roaming, it’s always beneficial to weigh out the risk and reward of your plays. Each time you roam, the enemy will get the opportunity to push your lane, or roam themselves. It’s important to determine if that’s worth it for you each time you want to roam. Additionally, if you want to make roaming the core of your playstyle, you should explore champions that do this the best such as (Katarina, LB, etc).

Team fighting

Finally, the last thing to focus on as a mid laner is team fighting. Team fighting is a core gameplay element that can make or break fights. The way you will teamfight will depend on a lot of factors, but the main two factors are what role you are playing, and what champion you are playing. Since we are talking about mid in this guide, you will generally want to focus on the enemy carries in fights.

Choosing the Right Champion

If you really want to lock-in and become the greatest mid lane you can be, it would be good to consider what picks you will use going forward. If you are anywhere below d4, a wise idea would be to pick champions that would enable you to focus on the game more. These would be simple champions like Annie or Veigar. With picks such as these, you would be able to spend more time learning the fundamental skills such as those we outlined above!

Final Thoughts

Becoming good at anything is not an easy task, and being good at mid lane is not either. However, there are some reasonable guidelines to follow if you want to accelerate your progression. If you are aiming to get good as fast as possible, just focus on the fundamental skills we discussed and you will start seeing some immediate progress!
