Best Top Laners for Low Elo League of Legends

Regardless if you are a beginner or not, climbing out of low ELO in League of Legends can be exceptionally hard. The games do not make a lot of sense, enemies and teammates are all making silly unexpected plays, and overall, it feels really messy and chaotic.

The easiest way to escape this level of gameplay is to focus on ourselves and start working on some fundamental stuff. To better learn the mechanics of the game, it’s better to focus on some simpler champs in the beginning. In order to do just that, today we are gonna go over the best top laners for low ELO in League of Legends.

Best Top Laners for Low ELO

Garen

Garen SplashartGaren is the absolute best top laner for lower ELO. Unless you are diamond 4 or above, the champion will do you much good for learning the game. He is perfect as he will allow you to truly master some fundamental game concepts such as trading, CSing, teleporting, etc.

A major upside of Garen is his healing passive, this passive will be active all the time when we are out of combat, regenerating massive amounts of our HP. The passive is key for our champion, as it will allow us to recoup HP even after most unprofessional trades.

The passive is also a major reason why Garen is recommended as one of the best beginner picks. The passive allows us to heal after making mistakes, and the more mistakes we make and fix the faster we can climb. If instead of Garen we played something like Yasuo, the learning curve would not enable us to progress as fast, potentially making us permanently hardstuck.

Illaoi

Illaoi Splashart

Illaoi is a step above Garen, but she is still somewhat of a simple champ. She is great for playing at low ELO because her kit is extremely hard to counter for inexperienced players. Illaoi can cast her E at enemy time, and take more than 30% of enemy HP with this one simple spell.

In team fighting, she has the ability to ultimate multiple enemies in a row, which creates a large number of tentacles and destroys everyone in the range of her ultimate. It’s important to note that Illaoi does more damage the more enemies surround her, many of low elo players do not know this, and they find themselves fighting Illaoi within the range of her ultimate/

Teemo

Teemo title

Teemo is another exceptionally low ELO pick. His high range and poison allow him to annoy and poke enemies from a safe distance. Then he has the ultimate which can be placed in a way to prevent almost all ganks from happening. This ultimate can also be used to secure objectives, by preemptively putting shrooms around the objectives before their spawn.

All the listed Teemo qualities make him exceptionally hard to play against. Most low ELO players do not know how to play against ranged champions, and they also do not have enough experience to counter invisible shroom.

Final Thoughts

The best champions for low ELO are simple champions that allow you to focus on the game itself rather than the champions’ kit. Some great champions I would recommend for low ELO are Garen, Illaoi, and Teemo. However, aside from these described picks, there are also honorable mentions such as Maokai, Dr Mundo, Nasus, and Tryndamere.
