CC stands for crowd control, one of the core League of Legends mechanics. The stuff that falls under the CC umbrella are all impairments that can be cast upon a champion including stuns, silences, knock-ups, etc.

A good CC ability can make or break a champion’s kit, so let’s explore all the best CC spells in the game as well as their respective champions!

Our list will not be exactly limited to ultimates, as we will also take common spells into consideration. Despite not being absolutely stronger than ultimates, these spells can be stronger if we consider both their utility and cooldowns. So for our first contender, we will be having Amum’s Bandage Toss.

The spell makes Amumu Cast a bandage in the direction of an enemy. The bandage can be cast while Amumu is moving, and if the spell connects Amumu will travel to the enemy’s location. A great thing about this spell is that it has 2 charges, meaning we will be able to pull two consecutive stuns on our enemies. The spell is well deserving of the first place, as it has utility that can be used in so many situations with great results.

Curse of The Sad Mummy – Amumu

And the second place goes to Amumu too. Call me biased but I think it’s hard to contend with the fact that Amumu’s ultimate (curse of the sad mummy) can single-handedly handicap the entire enemy team. When properly cast, the AOE of this spell will stun-lock any target within its range, making them open season for Amumu’s team.

Dark Binding – Morgana

Morgana’s Q “dark binding” is a low cooldown spell that will root an enemy for up to 3 seconds. This is one of the longest root durations in the game, and Morgana can make use of it every 10 seconds. I doubt many people would disagree with this choice, especially the fellow support mains.

Nether Grasp – Malzahar

The strongest single-target CC ability in League of Legends is Malzahar’s ult (Nether Grasp). The ability will stun a selected enemy for the duration of 2.5 seconds. In most practical scenarios, this means death for the person that Malzahar has selected. Although Malzahar is not a pretty strong champion, the ultimate by itself still is one of the strongest spells in League of Legends. Aside from its stun, Nether Grasp will deal damage to enemies every 0.25 sec while the spell is channeling, meaning that the enemy will be hit 10 times during its full duration.

Rocket Grab – Blitzcrank

Blitz’s Q, Rocket Grab, is one of the most unique and strongest abilities in the game. It allows Blitzcrank to pull a champion to himself no matter the obstacle between the two. If the hook connects, Blitzcrank will transport the champion through walls, champions, minions or any other type of obstacle. The power of this spell oftentimes creates scenarios where the pulled enemy has no way of escaping.

Crowd control is one of the core gameplay mechanics in League of Legends. CC mostly ranged from single target to multiple target CC. The best way to judge if a CC spell is good is to measure its cooldown and compare it to its outcomes. There are great high cooldown CC abilities such as Amumus R, but there are also great CC abilities that are on lower cooldown, such as Blitzcrank’s Q. Aside from these factors, the choice can often boil down to personal preferences.
